Browser wars
Microsoft
mozilla-firefox
Opera

Speakers:
Brendan Eich invented java script
IE developer every version
Wilson
McCathieNevile

Question: web developers IE, pitching silverlight. What is silverlight? Web standards platform, not on silverlight platform Wilson said. Not here to talk about it.

Flash is still the web. Silverlight will take a while to catch on.

WPF platform Avalon project different than web platform

Aptana good tool for standards based platform.

Desktop and web merge, what does Opera do? Everything standards.
Including add-ons and widgets.

Brendan you invented java script

Silverlight. C#. Microsoft wants c# to not include java script.
Microsoft does have skills with silverlight.

Wilson - microsoft is doing good stuff.

Eich - firefox success owed to people who use it and hack it. Not rushing js4 communicate with developers.

Charles-opera on lots of mobile phones. What does opera do? Could it be on iPhone with sdk. Opera mini is a browser. Opera gets distrubtion deals. Opera comes on many phones. Whats the best browser. Shipped 40 million copies of opera last year. iPhone has about 2 million right now. No reason to make an iPhone browser.

China has bout same as us in Internet users and china has room to grow.

Whats going on with HTML 5? Chaotic effort right now but good things going on. Not a standard yet not W3C compliant yet. Canvas is still in. Wilson -we want it to be standards compliant.

Ajax- weird back channel. What kinds things with XHTML can developers get out of it.
Cross site requests is where were going.

Questions:
SVG- can IE support these? What kind of standards are they? No chris said. We want to take them on but not sure when. Multiple versions of
svg. SVG has many bugs right now. SVG not the right size

Adobe engine-screaming monkey. Actioscript similar to js. Covest engine.

Standards based on participation. There are slackers around.

What would it take to parse CSS padding and margins? Crowd cheers why isn't 100% = to 100%. Browsers and developers need to sit down and agree on it. Companies need to check and communicate. Test weeks with all standards something we didn't do before wilson said.

W3C guy says test cases can show how to do it right and wrong.

IE8 install has developer tools.
