Tuesday April 22, 2008 - Earth Day
Here are some cool sites and tips about how you can help preserve the environment since today is Earth Day:
Earth Class Mail - Turn your postal mail into email
This looks like a geat idea I haven't tried it yet but if enough people did this we cold really stop the junk mail and clutter. They recycle your mail since since it still has to be sent but its more than your doing now.
Cell phone recycling company iRecyclePhones.com has partnered with American Forests to plant a tree for each cell phone donated starting Earth Day, April 22.
Earth Day 911 has a really helpful Recycling Finder on their site to locate a facility in your area.
Install your own wind turbines - Over at the American Wind Energy Association they have some really inspiring facts about uing wind energy
- Small wind systems cost from $3,000 to $5,000 for every kilowatt of
generating capacity, or about $40,000 for a 10-kilowatt system. This is
much cheaper than solar systems they say.
- Smaller wind generators with a 1-3 kilowatt capacity are often used to
power specific applications such as water pumps or RV lights and
appliances. But the smaller turbines can still cut down energy bills. A
3-kilowatt turbine mounted on a 60 to 80-foot tower costs about
$15,000. If you spend $60-100 per month for electricity, you could
knock 30-60 percent off your bill, depending on the wind speed, tower
height, and price of electricity.
